Back-to-Back Events Live+Virtual, Sun/Mon

The JCC will host two live events this Sunday and Monday, Oct. 3rd & 4th, both focusing on mental health throughout our community. The Milton “Mickey” Kramer Scholar-In-Residence Fund of the Congregation Beth El Foundation, in collaboration with the UJFT and area synagogues, presents “Tidewater Together,” featuring esteemed author Stephen Fried. This event will kick-off on Sunday with a panel discussion on "Brain Health and Faith" and include local rabbis and cantors as panelists. Starts at 5:30 PM Sunday and includes dinner.

On Monday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 PM, Fried will discuss "Mental Health Awareness in Tidewater." Participants include Jewish Family Services of Tidewater and local mental health experts. You may click to reserve space and attend these events in person (we will be outside under a tent ) or view from home on a livestream. For any questions visit JewishVA.org/TidewaterTogether or contact Sierra Lautman, SLautman@UJFT.org.

Sports & Athletics a "Go" this Fall

As families settle into the school year, it's time to reserve spots on our wonderful kids athletic teams offered here at the Simon Family JCC. First up: Winter Swim Team for kids ages 5 - 18. Practices are Mon -Wed and all meets will be virtual this year! Which means no travel — the team will compete against other JCCs virtually and safely. Deadline for signup is Nov 1, first practice Nov 8.

Youth Basketball kicks off with a 3 week pre-season clinic (Mondays, Nov. 8 - 22). Kindergarten - 2nd graders are 4:30 - 5:15 PM; 3rd - 5th graders are 5:30 - 6:30 PM.

Youth League starts with a draft on Nov. 29 with all practices on Wednesdays and games on Sundays, through March 6, 2022. Volunteer coaches are needed for both.

Baby & Me Lake Walk, Oct. 8

On Friday, October 8, we invite our JCC community to walk our own Lake Sandler with strollers and babies from 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM. Presented by PJ Library, this new program will take place around our beautiful water feature and surrounding walking trail. Children under two and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers are all welcome. It's a great way to start the day and connect with your little one, while enjoying fresh air and friends in a safe, outdoor environment. Coffee and pastries will be available.

Fall Into Yoga with JFit at the JCC

The JFit Wellness team has launched a brand new program for autumn called "Fall Into Yoga." Open to all, this is great for both experienced yoga practitioners who want to perfect their form as well as new-to-yoga people who have been too intimidated to take that first leap. Each month, our 3 certified instructors will focus on a different aspect of yoga, and deep dive for 4 weeks. There will be opportunities for suggested reading, too. This is a prime chance to see what type of yoga is for you. For more information speak to Tom Purcell, Director of Wellness: TPurcell@UJFT.org or speak with the front desk.
