REMINDER: Our JCC Mask Protocol

We continue to follow the Commonwealth of Virginia recommendations and CDC guidelines. In recent weeks, Virginia Beach has transitioned from "high" to "substantial" community transmission rates. As per the CDC, masking is recommended in public, indoor settings in communities with high or substantial transmission. We monitor rates on an ongoing basis and will evaluate our policy once our community is below "substantial." Thank you, in advance, for your consideration of the children, seniors, and entire community that utilizes the Simon Family JCC and the programs on the Sandler Family Campus. Please continue to bring and wear your mask in the building. As always, our security and front desk will continue to ensure compliance with this policy.

A Special Blood Drive at the JCC: Dec. 1st

Please put Wednesday, December 1st, on your calendar. The Simon Family JCC and United Jewish Federation of Tidewater are hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive at the JCC, in honor of one of our own. Sam Sachs is a local hero and “warrior” who is currently receiving treatment for T-Cell Leukemia. He’s made it a mission to make our community-at-large aware of the need for blood and platelets at this critical time. The Red Cross will be set up — safely — in our gymnasium from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM on Dec. 1. You can sign up for your donation slot in advance, at the button below: Type the code "SAM" in the 'Search' box and our listing will pop up. We’re aiming for a highly successful day of donations from our community of givers.

Yale Author Talk, Next Monday, Includes Free Lunch

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 15, at 12 NOON

Join us at the Simon Family JCC for this free in-person program that includes lunch! Tickets are available but you must register in advance (click button below). Author Elyssa Friedland will discuss her latest book, “Last Summer at the Golden Hotel.” If you’ve ever been intrigued at the so-called “Jewish Alps” hey dey, where the well-heeled and celebrities spent their time north of New York City, this is a fantastic read. Friedland currently teaches creative writing at Yale University, is a Columbia Law School graduate, and has been published in the Washington Post, New York magazine, and more. This event is part of our Lee and Bernard Jaffe Family Jewish Book Festival.

Adam Mansbach Changed to Virtual Event

We have pivoted the Dec. 8 author event with Adam Mansbach to a virtual, online program only. Please note the change. Mansbach returns to our audience for his second time addressing the Lee and Bernard Jaffe Family Jewish Book Festival in partnership with Jewish Family Services of Tidewater, to speak about his latest, “I Had a Brother Once.” The crushing story of loss details the inexplicable suicide of the author’s brother, and forces him to confront his unsettled family history, relationships with tradition and faith. This is a FREE program open to the community but you must register in advance to receive the livestream link.
