Please enjoy the latest happenings from the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater

September 15, 2021

As Yom Kippur approaches, we bid our Federation community G'mar Chatima Tova — May you be inscribed in the Book of Life.

Additionally, we would like to extend a 'Thank You' to all who came out this Super Sunday, as well as those who pledged their 2022 gifts on the phone. We're off to a great start, having raised over $140,000 on Sunday. But... we're still counting! And there's still time to call back or make your gift, here:

Be A Reader Seeking Volunteers, 10/4

The Jewish Community Relations Council of the UJFT is assisting the Kairos Freedom Schools in launching their first after-school program at Jacox Elementary on Oct. 4. Similar to our Be A Reader program — which brings volunteer mentors to kids with reading challenges for one-on-one literacy programming — the schools are seeking help from our community to assist teachers working with Kindergarten - 2nd grade children. You can select Monday-Wednesday, or Tuesday-Thursday slots, from 4:30 - 6:30 PM. (Any 2-hour commitment on any day between Mon.-Thurs. will be appreciated.) No prior training is necessary; just the will to help mentor a child with their reading or math skills. Interested volunteers should contact Robin Ford, BeAR Coordinator; RFord@UJFT.org or 321-2304.

Pizza in the Hut: Sukkot Is Here!

On September 19 from 5 PM - 7 PM, celebrate Sukkot with family and friends over dinner in the Simon Family JCC sukkah. We will decorate the structure, learn about the holiday, sing songs, and have an author read-aloud followed by a pizza party. The event is free and open to the community, sponsored by PJ Library in Tidewater. Also worth noting: If you have young children who like to read, PJ Library is a wonderful program that mails new books monthly to your home, to read with or have your child read on their own. There's no commitment and it's a great way to get young minds engaged with fantastic stories. Contact Program Coordinator Nofar Trem with questions regarding sign-up or click below to sign up for the Sukkot party.
