Please enjoy the latest happenings from the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater

July 22, 2021

Welcome to a refreshed newsletter from your United Jewish Federation of Tidewater. Below we're discussing the recent events at the Kotel prayer section in Israel... the upcoming Hineni cohort of promising young leaders... Continued support for the families of the tragic Surfside collapse... an all-star Federation CEO-turned-consultant visits Tidewater... and it's time to SAVE THE DATE for SUPER SUNDAY!

Federation System Support for Egalitarian Prayer

The United Jewish Federation of Tidewater joined the Jewish Federations of North America in thanking the Israeli government for their swift and dedicated response calling for preservation and protection of prayer for all at the Ezrat Yisrael section of the Kotel following the outrageous events last weekend.

Women's Cabinet & 2022 Campaign

The UJFT Women's Cabinet, led by co-chairs Barbara Dudley and Mona Flax, kicked off our 2022 campaign last week with a special "summer camp" experience at the Simon Family JCC. Camp JCC director Dave Flagler led the ladies through various parts of the campus where hidden clues informed the group about many of the places campaign dollars are benefitting our community. The Cabinet then enjoyed a retro camp "canteen" as they listened to Gary Weinstein (story below) thank them for their immeasurable efforts.

Hineni Fellow Application is Open

Young leaders of today become strong role models and community change-makers tomorrow. Our Hineni leadership program develops skills and a mindset to broaden your scope of what it means to be a leader. In addition, it strengthens your knowledge of the power and positive influence of our Federation. This yearlong experiential opportunity includes a group trip to Israel.

Former Dallas Federation CEO Visits

On July 12, the UJFT was thrilled to host Gary Weinstein, a professional coach and fundraiser with 47 years of experience, including incredible success as the CEO of the Dallas Federation. Our lay leaders, CEOs, development professionals and staff from other agencies and synagogues, Women's Cabinet, Young Adult Division (YAD) and Hineni fellows enjoyed a day of workshops, trainings and seminars. Gary delivered a message to help our leaders understand the context of national and even global Jewish communities. One (of many) highlights: Hearing first hand from Weinstein how the Tidewater Federation ranks in the top 10% of organized Jewish communities throughout North America for campaign involvement in a population our size. He also helped identify areas for growth and improvement within our vibrant and diverse region. Weinstein resides in Charleston, S.C.

Miami Emergency Assistance Fund

The Tidewater Jewish Community directly supports the Greater Miami Jewish Federation in their efforts to aid families affected by the Surfside building collapse. As always, the Federation will take no administrative costs from the fund. This is yet another example of the indispensable role our Federations play in supporting and protecting Jewish communities in North America.
