MISSION TO ISRAEL DELEGATION RETURNS!

The group from the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater that visited Israel (March 1 - 9) have returned, with what UJFT Chief Development Officer Amy Zelenka calls "A renewed appreciation" for the work our Federation — along with all our supporters and partners — is able to accomplish there.

The mission kicked off with a visit to an “Inclusive Community” program run by overseas partner, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) in Jerusalem. This was followed by a visit to JDC headquarters where participants got a rare glimpse inside the fascinating archives there.

The following day, a visit to another UJFT partner organization, World ORT, introduced the group to an officer responsible for managing the 12 "excellence centers" located throughout Israel, where more than 5,000 children participate in integrative and experiential STEAM learning activities. The results are clear: Better college admissions, jobs at professional technology firms, and even higher-up positions in the IDF because of these enrichment programs — some of which we fund through our annual campaign.

The list of experiences like these shared here (from the delegation's first 2 days, only!) are the tip of the iceberg. Amy will be sharing more in an upcoming article in the Jewish News — keep your eyes on the next issue (due out April 3).

"It was an interesting time to be in Israel. With protest marches and headlines decrying the proposals of the newest coalition government, it was often hard to distinguish fact and opinion," Amy shares. "But what was absolutely clear to our group — with zero ambiguity — is the fact that the dollars we raise through our Federation's annual Community Campaign are hard at work improving lives and changing futures for the better."
