TIDEWATER TOGETHER TO PRESENT HANDS-ON ART WORKSHOP

SUNDAY, JULY 10, 4 PM

Join Isaac & Rabbi Shawna Brynjegard-Bialik for a hands-on paper-cutting workshop where you'll have the opportunity to study text and create your own visual midrash.

In this workshop, we will study some midrash — stories about what we read in the Torah — and how each of us brings something different to the story. Known for their hands-on paper-cutting workshops for adults, Isaac and Rabbi Shawna will guide you in creating your own personal commentary on the Torah portion for the week.

No experience or "artistic ability" is required, all materials are provided. Dinner included. All adults (and teens over 16) are welcome. Click here to register for the arts workshop.

This program is presented by the Konikoff Center for Learning as a part of the Milton “Mickey” Kramer Scholar-in-Residence Fund of the Congregation Beth El Foundation’s Tidewater Together Series.

BE A READER SEEKS MENTORS FOR 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR

If you like to read — and have some spare time to help mentor young readers across Hampton Roads that may be struggling with literacy — we've got a great volunteer program for you.

The Jewish Community Relations Council of the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater’s Be a Reader program (BeAR is looking to add you to their team of young reader mentors. Tidewater students need great trainers and you will never regret helping a child learn to read.

During the 2022-23 school year, you dedicate an hour each week to sitting with your student. Worried about the time commitment? You can "share" your reader with another volunteer, swapping weeks you visit and help them.

Visit JEWISHVA.org/BEAR or contact Robin Ford at 757.321.2304; email her at RFord@UJFT.org to learn more.
