TOUR THE BARR COLLECTION OF TORAH POINTERS AT CHRYSLER MUSEUM

JUNE 10TH, 10 AM

Join Clay Barr for a special tour of The Guiding Hand: The Barr Foundation Collection of Torah Pointers at the Chrysler Museum of Art, led by the collector herself. Due to the small size of the objects on display, space is limited for this unique opportunity, presented by the Konikoff Center for Learning at the UJFT.

For hundreds of years, Jews used simple tapered wooden sticks to point the way through the text of the Torah without touching the fragile handwritten animal-skin parchment surface. These pointers are called “yads” – literally the Hebrew word for hand יד because of the miniature hands that are typically featured on the tip of the pointer.  Yads are personal, individualized objects and have developed into a unique art form with great variety since there are no rules governing their form.

Click below to register. For questions, email Sierra at: SLautman@UJFT.org
