On October 7, 2023, during the holiday of Shemini Atzeret, Hamas terrorists launched an unprecedented attack on Israel from Gaza, firing thousands of rockets, breaching the country’s borders, with significant numbers killed and hospitalized. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel was at war and gave the order for the IDF to commence "Operation Swords of Iron.” A year later, Israel continues to fight to defend itself.
The Tidewater Jewish community has joined with Jewish Federations across North America to comprehensively support our brothers and sisters as they defend Israel. We are continuing to work with our core partners to support victims of terror in their ongoing need and continue to address the unprecedented levels of trauma caused by this continuing attack on Jewish safety and sovereignty.
Now, a year since the start of the war, Israel continues to need our support. Israel will prevail and the Jewish people will stand together as we always do. Am Yisrael Chai.
100% of funds raised through the Tidewater Supports Israel Emergency Fund will be directed to our partner agencies working on the ground in Israel. These include the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), Jewish Agency for Israel’s (JAFI’s) Victims of Terror Fund, World ORT (Organization for Rehabilitation and Training), Israel Trauma Coalition, United Hatzalah, Magen David Adom, Zaka, Hadassah Medical Center, and Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF).
