The Konikoff Center for Learning at the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater invites you to enjoy a "taste" of the Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning. Meet one of our teachers, Dr. Amy Milligan, sample a lesson from the upcoming Melton course Exploring a Forgotten World: A Social History of Medieval Jewry as Revealed in the Cairo Genizah, and experience Melton's text-based, discussion-oriented approach to Jewish learning.
Enjoy a front-row seat to the drama, gossip, legal transactions, and other daily intrigues of Jewish life—in the Middle Ages! Interpreting textual evidence yields new insights into the daily interactions and behaviors of Jewish men, women, and families living along the Mediterranean more than 1,000 years ago – and at root, how similar they are to our own family dynamics, business ventures, and communal concerns today.
Melton courses are ideal for those looking to deepen their understanding of the basics of Judaism and Jewish living, regardless of prior knowledge. Whether this is your first taste of Melton, or you are coming back for more, all are welcome!
This class will be offered IN-PERSON or ONLINE on December 19 at 12:00 PM.
