Israel Today Presents
Technion & MIT Professor Shlomo Maital in Conversation with Israel Story
This time, An Intergenerational Conversation with Israel Story co-founders
Mishy Harman, Yochai Maital, and Yochai’s Father, Professor Shlomo Maital
"According to the Strauss-Howe generational theory, “Each generation unleashes a new era lasting around 20–22 years, in which a new social, political, and economic climate is created”. OK – I gave it away. I’m a (retired) professor. I deal in theories and words. But there IS a definite generation effect. Mine, 1930-46, Depression and war babies. (Very few of us). 1947-1965 Boomers. (Lots) 1965-80 Gen X. (Baby bust) 1981-94 Gen Y. 1995-now GenZ.
In our conversation we will explore how Yochai and Mishy, early Gen Y, see their world and shape it, compared with us Depression (NOT depressed!) people… Are you part of GenX? Different from it? Two generations separate us – is there a communications gap? Are you angry with the mess previous generations left you? Let’s discuss!"
- Professor Shlomo Maital
Professor Shlomo Maital is the Academic Director of TIM-Technion Institute of Management, Israel's leading executive leadership development institute, and a pioneer in action-learning methods. He was a Visiting Professor for 20 years at MIT Sloan School of Management's Management of Technology M.Sc. program, teaching over 1,000 R&D engineers from 40 countries. He is the author, co-author, or editor of 8 books, including Innovation Management (Sage, 2007); Executive Economics (The Free Press), translated into seven languages, and Managing New Product Development & Innovation.
Yochai Maital is a co-founder and senior producer of Israel Story podcast and radio show. His work is on the seam of journalism and art. He spends his days combing Israel and the world for stories and then endlessly fretting over how best to tell them. Yochai is passionate about bringing you tales that reveal the less talked about sides of Israel and is driven by the belief that experiencing life through another’s eyes, is an essential part of a compassionate society. Yochai currently lives in New York with his wife Dafna and three kids but wakes up every morning dreaming of Tel-Aviv.
Mishy Harman is a curly-haired Jerusalemite, co-founder, and host of Israel Story. After completing his military service in the IDF, Mishy went to Harvard, where he received a B.A. in history and then received the Harvard-Cambridge Scholarship to do an M.Phil at Cambridge University. After seven long years abroad, he realized that he missed home, and returned to Jerusalem, where he completed a Ph.D. at the Hebrew University - a biography of the first Protestant missionary in Ethiopia. Mishy is an active social entrepreneur. Right after college he founded a Boston-based social networking startup that had projects in many countries around the world. His biggest passion, however, is his radio show Sipur Yisraeli (Israel Story). He currently lives in Jerusalem with his wife Federica and their two dogs, Nomi and Golda.
