Super Sunday: It's Time To Sign Up

This year's Super Sunday is fast approaching. Whether you are new to the community or a longtime participant, it's integral to understand the impact this campaign kick-off has on our entire year of global initiatives. The collective support brought together by our community campaign resonates globally; It touches the lives of Jewish individuals and organizations throughout Tidewater, as well as those vulnerable, or at-risk Jewish communities around the world.

Please join us at the Simon Family JCC (we will be outside, under shaded tents as well as have an inside call center option — your choice), in making calls, or, taking a call from us on Sept. 12th. We'll have coffee and kosher snacks, customized shirts, and plenty of activity on campus that day. We're determined to keep things safe, outdoors (when possible) and socially distant.

This year's campaign theme — "Today.Tomorrow.Together." invokes the manner in which we strengthen our resolve for a strong, vibrant, Jewish future.

Then, Now, & Looking Forward:

The Lorraine Fink Retrospective reception will also take place on September 12, inside the Cardo and Leon Family Gallery at the Simon Family JCC, from 1 PM - 3 PM. Fink's work, which spans five decades, is being exhibited through Sept. 30th and culminates in this special afternoon with the artist. Come to hear the stories behind some of her most celebrated paintings, drawings, multi-media illustrations, photographs, and sculptures — some of which are the famed "warriors" made with upcycled materials like JCC gymnasium light fixtures. The event is free and open to the community, but pre-registration is required. To learn more about the show visit JewishVA.org/Gallery, or, click the link below to sign up for the reception.

Sunday Funday Continues Into Fall

A third event for Sunday, Sept. 12, is the first of our Fall Sunday Fun Days. Pack the family in the car and head to the JCC for a fun-filled afternoon of music, field games, and sweet treats. This community-building, family-friendly event is presented by PJ Library. It's free and open to all JCC, synagogue, and YAD members, as well as Strelitz and Camp JCC families. You must pre-register, on the link below. Contact PJ LIbrary Program Coordinator Nofar Trem with any questions, NTrem@UJFT.org

Pizza in the Hut: Sukkot Is Here!

On September 19 from 5 PM - 7 PM you can come celebrate Sukkot with family and friends over dinner in the Simon Family JCC sukkah. We will decorate the structure, learn about the holiday, sing songs and have an author read-aloud followed by a pizza party. The event is free and open to the community, sponsored by PJ Library in Tidewater. Also worth noting: If you have young children who like to read, PJ Library is a wonderful program that mails new books monthly to your home, to read with or have your child read on their own. There's no commitment and it's a great way to get young minds engaged with fantastic stories. Contact Program Coordinator Nofar Trem (NTrem@UJFT.org) with questions regarding sign-up or click below to sign up for the Sukkot party.
