Tidewater’s sixth annual Great Big Challah Bake, a partnership between B’nai Israel Congregation and the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater will be just one of thousands of similar events taking place around the globe—part of The Shabbos Project —bringing Jews from all walks of life and across the spectrum of religious affiliations to celebrate one full Shabbat, together.
Always a fun and meaningful evening, tie on those apron strings, and head to your kitchen to reconnect with old friends and make some new ones as the women of Tidewater come together to celebrate the Jewish tradition of preparing for Shabbat and the spiritual joys of making challah.
This year may look different, with speakers, a challah making demonstration, and casual conversations occurring over Zoom, but our organizers from the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater and B'nai Israel Congregation have innovative plans to help the evening feel just as warm and welcoming as if we were in person! This will include Zoom break-out rooms where you can join a "table" with others to make new friends and catch up with old friends as you knead and braid your challah to perfection for Shabbat.
All ingredients needed to make your challah are listed below. Recipe cards and the blessings will be sent to event participants. Registrants who choose the $5 option (available through October 28) will be able to pick up a Challah Kit that includes all ingredients at the Simon Family JCC the week of the event.
